match of the day

Having sadly missed the Nepal international side in action a couple of weeks previously due to charity commitments, ahem, we were pumped to finally get some tickets to see local side Nepal Police Club in a cup game against those giants of international football, Balkan FC of Turkmenistan. Andy had been itching to get into the stadium, the very same that played host to ‘the Groover from Vancouver’ aka Bryan Adams back in February, since we arrived in Kathmandu.

team pow-wow

Taking our concrete seats in the blistering midday sun we tried not to blind the home side with our reflective skin. Unfortunately we only realised after half time that the guy sitting next to us thought we were here to see Balkan FC! The shame. But being the most passive football crowd we’ve ever witnessed, we had nothing to worry about. So, we were really puzzled as to why there were more police in attendance than spectators…

riot averted, the cops head home

Final score: Nepal Police Club 0 Balkan FC 2
